Six Flags Dubai

Six Flags Dubai was a proposed theme park project planned for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as part of the Dubai Parks and Resorts portfolio. Initially announced in 2014, the park was envisioned to bring the popular American Six Flags brand, known for its thrill rides and roller coasters, to the Middle East.

The development was expected to span approximately 27 million square feet on Dubai’s Dubailand site and include a variety of rides, shows, and attractions themed around iconic Six Flags characters and franchises such as DC Comics superheroes and Looney Tunes.

However, the project faced multiple delays and was eventually cancelled due to financial and market challenges, with its intended location and development efforts coming to a halt. Instead, Six Flags shifted focus to a new major project in Saudi Arabia called Six Flags Qiddiya, slated for opening in 2025 near Riyadh.

This new park is planned to be the first Six Flags built outside North America, featuring record-breaking coasters and a comprehensive theme park experience aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 for economic diversification and tourism growth.

Thus, while Six Flags Dubai was initially one of the region’s most anticipated theme park projects, it did not materialize, reflecting the sometimes volatile nature of large-scale entertainment developments in the Gulf.

The brand’s presence in the Middle East is now primarily projected through the Qiddiya development in Saudi Arabia, marking a shift in geographic focus for Six Flags in the region.

A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.
