British University in Dubai

The British University in Dubai (BUiD) was established in 2003 as a not-for-profit, research-focused postgraduate university by law number 5 issued by His Highness the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai.

It was founded through collaboration between British and Dubai academic, government, and commercial organizations, including the Al Maktoum Foundation, Dubai Development and Investment Authority, Rolls-Royce, the British Business Group, and Emirates NBD.

Licensed by the UAE Ministry of Education, BUiD offers its own degrees that are internationally recognized by UK NARIC, ensuring alignment with the academic standards of its partners in the UK, including the University of Edinburgh, the University of Manchester, the University of Glasgow, and Cardiff University.

BUiD initially focused exclusively on postgraduate education and research, aiming to contribute to the UAE’s knowledge economy and socio-economic development through world-class education and innovation. The university offers full and part-time Masters, PhD, and doctoral programs in fields such as education, business management, law, engineering, finance, computer science, architecture, and project management.

From 2018, BUiD expanded to provide undergraduate programs in disciplines including artificial intelligence, computer science, engineering, architecture, accounting, finance, and business management. These programs are designed to meet regional needs while maintaining a rigorous British academic framework.

The university is recognized for promoting original research and has received a strong reputation for producing graduates who contribute significantly to professional sectors locally and internationally. BUiD prioritizes partnerships with industry leaders such as Atkins and the UAE Ministry of Education to offer specialized training and curriculum development.

It is committed to advancing knowledge in emerging fields, including artificial intelligence and sustainable built environments, supporting the UAE’s vision for innovation and sustainable development.

The governance of the university is overseen by a council appointed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with its chancellor currently being His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. BUiD plays a key role in Dubai's higher education ecosystem as a hub for research, professional training, and knowledge exchange.
