Dar Al Khaleej Printing and Publishing

Dar Al Khaleej Printing and Publishing is a prominent publishing house based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, established in 1970 by brothers Taryam Omran Taryam and Abdullah Omran Taryam.

It was launched with the publication of Al Khaleej, the first Arabic daily newspaper in the UAE. Initially, due to the absence of modern printing facilities in the country, the newspaper was printed in Kuwait and flown daily to the UAE, with printing operations commencing in Sharjah in 1980 once adequate facilities became available.

Despite early challenges, including a temporary suspension of publication from 1972 to 1980, Dar Al Khaleej persevered and eventually grew to become one of the most widely read Arabic newspapers in the UAE.

The company has expanded its portfolio to include several publications catering to different audiences, such as The Gulf Today, an English-language daily launched in 1996; Al Shuruq, a weekly political magazine re-launched in 1992; Kul Al Usrah, a family magazine launched in 1993; Al Iqtisadi, a monthly business magazine started in 1996; and Al Azkiyaa, a children's magazine also launched in 1996.

Dar Al Khaleej is also recognized for its cultural and intellectual contributions through the Al Khaleej Studies Center, established in 1980 and later developed into a dedicated institution for publishing books, research, and organizing seminars on various academic and cultural themes.

The group is well-regarded for supporting national and regional issues and promoting Arab unity and cultural identity. Its commitment to quality journalism, diverse content offerings, and community engagement has positioned Dar Al Khaleej as a key media and cultural institution in the UAE and the broader Gulf region.

The company continues to influence the media landscape through its publications and initiatives such as the Taryam and Abdullah Omran Journalism Awards, which honor both established and emerging journalistic talent in the Arab world.
