Mohammed bin Sulayem

Mohammed Ahmad Sultan bin Sulayem, born on November 12, 1961, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is a celebrated Emirati former rally driver and the current president of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body for many major motorsport events including Formula One.

He is one of the most successful Arab motorsport athletes in history, having won 14 FIA Middle East Rally Championship titles between 1983 and 2002, with a record 61 career victories.

He competed in numerous international rallies across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the World Rally Championship, driving for renowned manufacturers such as Opel, Toyota, and Ford.

After retiring from professional racing, he transitioned into motorsport administration, becoming President of the Emirates Motorsports Organization in 2005, representing the UAE in the FIA.

In 2008, he was elected as a Vice President of Sport and a member of the FIA World Motor Sport Council. He played a key role in establishing the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2009, which has since become a staple on the Formula One calendar.

He was also a founding member and chairman of the FIA sub-region of the Arab Council of Touring and Automobile Clubs.

In December 2021, Mohammed bin Sulayem made history as the first non-European to be elected FIA President, succeeding Jean Todt. In this role, he has focused on enhancing transparency, promoting sustainability, and fostering new talent in motorsport.
