Mohi-Din Binhendi

Mohi-Din Binhendi is an influential Emirati businessman and former civil aviation expert known for his significant contributions to Dubai’s aviation industry. He served as the Director General of Dubai Civil Aviation from 1979, a role in which he played a pivotal part in transforming Dubai Airport from a modest airstrip into one of the busiest airports in the world.

His leadership in aviation helped establish Dubai as a major international transit hub, supporting the broader economic development of the emirate through strategic planning, infrastructural enhancements, and innovative concepts like Dubai Duty-Free.

His career began with his appointment as Director of Airport Customs, and he was later appointed Director General of Civil Aviation under a royal decree issued by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Throughout his tenure, he oversaw numerous projects, including expanding Dubai’s airport facilities, increasing operational efficiency, and fostering Dubai’s reputation as a global gateway between East and West. Under his stewardship until 1998, Dubai Airport saw exponential growth which laid the foundation for Dubai’s emergence as a key international hub.

Not only has he contributed to aviation, but he also founded and presides over Binhendi Enterprises, a prominent retail and investment conglomerate in the UAE.
