Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo

The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, located within the Dubai Mall, is one of the largest indoor aquariums in the world and a major tourist attraction in Dubai. Officially opened on November 4, 2008, it marked a significant milestone in Dubai’s development into a global center for tourism and entertainment.

The aquarium boasts a gigantic 10-million-liter tank that is home to over 33,000 aquatic animals from more than 140 species, including around 400 sharks and rays. It features the world's largest acrylic panel for viewing at 32.88 meters wide and 8.3 meters high, providing visitors with an immersive underwater experience without getting wet.

Guests can explore a remarkable 48-meter-long underwater tunnel, offering a 270-degree panoramic view, where they can witness a vibrant array of marine life swimming just above and around them.

The underwater zoo, located on an upper level, is divided into three ecological zones: rainforest, rocky shore, and living ocean, showcasing diverse species from crocodiles to various fish and aquatic creatures. Beyond viewing, visitors have the opportunity to engage in unique activities such as glass-bottom boat rides, shark dives, and cage snorkeling, adding an adventurous element to the educational experience.

The aquarium's focus goes beyond entertainment, emphasizing marine conservation and education, housing in-house marine biologists and engaging the public in environmental awareness programs. Though it experienced a minor incident in 2010 due to a small crack in its tank, swift repairs ensured visitor safety and the continued operation of this world-class attraction.

With approximately 5 million visitors annually, the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo remains a centerpiece of the city's appeal, combining grandeur with sustainability and education in an awe-inspiring aquatic environment.
