Iranian Mosque, Satwa

The Iranian Mosque, also known as the Imam Hussein Mosque, is a prominent Shia mosque located in the Satwa area of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Established in 1979 with the support of the Iranian Red Crescent, it serves as a religious and cultural center for Dubai’s Iranian community. The mosque is situated on Al Wasl Road, not far from the Jumeirah Mosque, and covers an area of approximately 2,500 square meters.

Its architecture is inspired by a combination of quasi-Fatimid and traditional Persian styles, characterized by a striking blue-tiled facade and dome, richly decorated with intricate geometric patterns and floral motifs typical of Persian art. This distinctive blue tilework closely resembles that of the nearby Iranian Hospital, reinforcing the cultural link to the Iranian heritage within Dubai.

Inside, the mosque houses several halls and rooms including a large prayer hall that can accommodate many worshippers and a well-stocked library containing over 14,000 books in various languages, including Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and English, reflecting the diverse interests and backgrounds of the community.

The mosque plays a vital role during important religious events such as Ashura and Ramadan, acting as a gathering place for worship, cultural activities, and educational programs. It conducts daily prayers and also hosts special religious ceremonies and Quranic recitations.

The mosque is open to non-Muslim visitors through guided tours organized by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, promoting intercultural dialogue and understanding.

The Iranian Mosque stands as a significant testament to the city's multicultural fabric and religious diversity, showcasing the Iranian community's contribution to Dubai's cultural and spiritual landscape.
