Jumeirah Mosque

Jumeirah Mosque in Dubai is a prominent religious and cultural landmark renowned for its stunning Islamic architecture. Its construction began in 1976 and was completed in 1979, commissioned by the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum as a gift to his son, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the current ruler of Dubai.

The mosque is built in the traditional medieval Fatimid style, a design that originated in Syria and Egypt, which is characterized by the use of intricate geometric patterns, deep relief stone carvings, and a white stone facade that gives the mosque a striking and elegant appearance.

The structure features a large central dome flanked by two tall minarets, and it can accommodate approximately 1,200 to 1,500 worshippers.

Situated along the prestigious Jumeirah Street, near the Persian Gulf, the mosque stands out not only for its architectural beauty but also for its cultural openness. It is one of the few mosques in Dubai that welcomes non-Muslim visitors, who can enter during guided tours organized by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU).

These tours aim to foster intercultural dialogue and understanding by educating visitors about Islam and Emirati traditions. The mosque’s prayer hall is decorated with floral motifs, geometric designs, and Quranic inscriptions, while the interior uses soothing tones such as apricot, cream, and blue to create a serene and spiritual atmosphere.

The mosque also has a courtyard with fountains for ablution, a majlis for hosting guests, and dedicated prayer spaces for women. As an architectural and social symbol, Jumeirah Mosque represents Dubai’s heritage, religious devotion, and commitment to cultural inclusiveness in a rapidly modernizing city.
