Meydan Racecourse

Meydan Racecourse, located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is a state-of-the-art horse racing facility opened on March 27, 2010, replacing the former Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.

Conceived as part of a visionary plan by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Meydan was designed to establish Dubai as a global center for elite horse racing and entertainment.

The racecourse is a sprawling complex covering over 7.5 million square meters and features an iconic 1.6-kilometer grandstand that can accommodate more than 60,000 spectators, along with luxurious amenities such as The Meydan Hotel, restaurants, a racing museum, and galleries.

The venue boasts two race tracks: a 2,400-meter turf track and a 1,750-meter dirt track, both floodlit for night racing, making it one of the most advanced and versatile equestrian facilities in the world.

Meydan hosts the prestigious Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race with a prize purse reaching $12 million, attracting top international jockeys, trainers, and horses annually.

Since its inauguration, the racecourse has played a significant role in elevating Dubai's global reputation in the sport of horse racing, while also serving as a multifaceted entertainment and leisure destination. The development was inspired by the transformation of Ascot Racecourse in England and reflects a blend of tradition, luxury, and cutting-edge technology. Meydan is often described as a "city within a city," combining residential, commercial, and sporting facilities that contribute to its vibrant atmosphere.
